Stephen Hart has been handed the keys to the Canadian men's soccer team for this summer's Gold Cup tournament.

Hart, the Canadian Soccer Association's technical director, was named the interim men's head coach through 2009 on Friday, less than a month after Dale Mitchell was fired.

Hart was the interim head coach two years ago, leading Canada to a semifinal berth at the 2007 CONCACAF Gold Cup.

The Canadians will play a friendly against Cyprus on May 30, then open the Gold Cup against Jamaica on July 3 in Los Angeles. Canada then faces El Salvador on July 7 in Columbus, and Costa Rica on July 10 in Miami.

Eight of the 12 teams will advance to the quarter-final stage in Philadelphia and Dallas. The semifinals are in Chicago, while the final will be played in New York.
