One of the boys who was hit by lightning in Brampton has died.

Five-year-old Kyus Caines died at the Hospital for Sick Children earlier today, a hospital spokesperson confirmed to CP24 on Friday night.

The spokesperson only confirmed that the boy died sometime after 8 p.m.

His mother Dulce Caines and a three-year-old boy who were also hit by lightning survived and have already been released from hospital.

Kyus had been in the hospital since the lightning strike on August 12. Witnesses say a bolt of lightning appeared to come out of nowhere. It was not raining at the time.

It is believed Kyus bore the brunt of the lightning bolt. He was holding a metal scooter at the time.
