The first poll taken since mayoral candidate Rocco Rossi left the race shows Rob Ford in the lead by five points.

The poll was conducted by Forum Research on Thursday night, a day after Rossi announced he would drop his bid for election. The results were:

  • Rob Ford: 30 per cent
  • George Smitherman: 25 per cent
  • Joe Pantalone: 10 per cent
  • Other: 1 per cent
  • Undecided: 33 per cent

Forum polled 700 people on the subject, and the poll has a margin of error of plus or minus four per cent. The President of Forum Research told CP24 there is lots of time and anything can still happen.

Rossi has bowed out of the race Wednesday after a week of intensive media appearances failed to boost his ratings in the polls.

An Ipsos Reid poll released that day showed Smitherman ahead at 38 per cent among voters "committed to go out and vote." Ford had 32 per cent, Joe Pantalone is at 15 per cent and Rossi had three per cent.

The Ipsos Reid poll had a relatively small sample size of 400 people, with a margin of error of plus or minus 4.9 per cent.

The three leading candidates for mayor are coming to CP24 to face off the final official televised debate. Catch "Your Vote: The Race for Mayor" live on CP24 on Tuesday, Oct. 19.
