Next phase of GO expansion work set to begin

Published:

The Town of Newmarket announced on Friday that Metrolinx will continue construction work in the downtown area next week on the GO Train expansion utility relocation project for the Barrie GO line.

In a media release, the town stated that Metrolinx will be working near Timothy Street and Doug Duncan Drive to transfer overhead utility lines underground.

The utility relocation is part of the Barrie rail corridor expansion project that will eventually add a second track between Lansdowne Avenue in Toronto and Allendale Waterfront GO Station in Barrie.

The Town of Newmarket stated that next week’s phase of utility work will be ongoing until the end of March, adding that working hours will be from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays.

During working times, there will be a temporary single lane closure on the north side of Timothy Street according to the town. The Tom Taylor Trail will remain open for pedestrians, but minor delays could occur.

Nearby businesses and residents are advised that there should be no impact to hydro power during working times, but parking on the east side of Doug Duncan Drive will be temporarily unavailable during the construction.
