Police in Hamilton are appealing for witnesses and information after a 16-year-old boy was allegedly chased before being fatally shot in Stoney Creek, Ont. just over a year ago.
The incident happened near Highway 8 and Fruitland Road.
Hamilton Police Service (HPS) said they received several 911 calls reporting a shooting in that area on March 6, 2025 at about 4:20 a.m.
At the scene, officers found a white Kia sedan and a red Acura SUV that were allegedly involved in a collision, just east of the intersection.
Investigators say the driver of the Acura, whom they’ve identified as 16-year-old Faizaan Awan, was found suffering from “multiple gunshot wounds.” The teen was rushed to the hospital where he later died from his injuries, said police, who are calling what occurred a “targeted incident.”
Hamilton police say they have determined that Faizaan was chased by the drivers of several vehicles for several kilometers prior to the shooting and subsequent collision.

“In addition to the Acura and Kia found at the scene, a silver Infiniti believed to be stolen and involved in the chase was later recovered in the area. Other vehicles believed to be involved remain outstanding,” police said in a news release.
They said two other people were inside the Acura at the time of the shooting, one of whom sustained a minor gunshot wound and received treatment at a later date for their injuries. Both have since been interviewed by investigators.
“The Homicide Unit has spent the past year reviewing video footage and interviewing witnesses as part of the ongoing investigation. Investigators believe multiple firearms were used during the incident, however the weapons have not been recovered,” HPS said.
“Police believe there are individuals who know what happened and why Faizaan Awan was targeted but have not yet come forward.”
