Toronto could see up to 20 millimetres of rain on Wednesday, with the unsettled weather coming exactly one week after a major storm that caused widespread flooding across the city.
Environment Canada says that showers will begin later on Wednesday morning with between 10 and 20 millimetres of rainfall expected by the evening.
The weather agency says the system will be accompanied by strong winds of 20 km/h, with gusts of up to 40 km/h.
The system won’t pack the same punch as last week’s storm, which brought more than 100 millimetres of rain to some parts of the GTA and resulted in an extended closure of the Don Valley Parkway.
CP24 Meteorologist Bill Coulter said the Sept. 2 storm saw severe weather “coming in waves from north to south” whereas this system will be moving in from the west, which he said will cause some “interaction with the Niagara Escarpment which tends to keep Toronto from seeing the worst of it.”
“It shouldn’t be as problematic for Toronto but we could still see some stronger storms, especially in midwestern Ontario, central Ontario and eastern Ontario. The winds will also accelerate as well through the afternoon hours,” Coulter warned.
Environment Canada says that while Toronto won’t surpass 24 C today, it will feel closer to 32 with the humidity.
Conditions will clear by Thursday with sunny skies and a daytime high of 23 C in the forecast.
