New video has been released that shows the moment a man opened fire from the driver’s side window of a vehicle in a plaza in Vaughan, shortly after an unrelated shooting occurred at a nightclub over the summer.
The initial shooting happened at around 2:20 a.m. on July 5. York Regional Police said officers responded to reports of gunfire in the area of Steeles Avenue and Scholes Road.
When police arrived at the scene, they said their officers learned a woman was ousted from the club after a fight occurred inside.
Two men allegedly confronted security, discharged a firearm and struck a male patron of the club. The victim was taken to the hospital with serious, non-life-threatening injuries, police said.
In this incident, police said two suspects remain unidentified and at-large.
After a lengthy investigation, police say that they have determined that a second unrelated shooting happened shortly after the one at the nightclub.
Soon after the first shooting, police said a male suspect discharged a firearm several times as an SUV drove through the plaza parking lot. They said he fired out from the driver’s side window of a dark-coloured BMW.
Police released security footage of that shooting on Friday. In the footage, a person can be seen firing in the direction of what appears to be a white SUV.
Nobody was struck or injured.
Investigators are seeking help identifying a suspect in relation to the second shooting.
Police describe the suspect as a Black male, between 25 and 35 years old with a heavy build. They add that he was last seen wearing a black T-shirt with writing on the front, blue knee-length jean shorts, a black baseball hat and white sneakers, as well as carrying a black crossbody bag.
Investigators are asking anyone with information or footage of the shooting to contact them or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
