Mississauga Mayor Hazel McCallion says she has no intention of giving up the job she's held for more than 30 years despite reports to the contrary.

A report in the National Post suggests the long-serving mayor may not seek another term since she hasn't registered two months into the race. Councillor Carolyn Parrish told the newspaper "it's late" for McCallion to have not registered.

But McCallion tells CP24 she'll be registering soon for re-election and hasn't had time to do so - yet.

The 89-year-old, who's been in office since 1978, says the only thing that could stop her from entering the race would be health issues.

According to the newspaper, all other Mississauga councilors except one, Maja Prentice of Ward 3, have registered to seek re-election in their wards.

The deadline to file to run for office is September 10.
