The decision of whether to grant bail to a suspect charged with stabbing soldiers at a Canadian Forces recruiting office in Willowdale was delayed to next week during a brief court appearance Friday morning.

His lawyer, David Burke, says the case was put over until March 24, as he works on putting together a proposal for bail.

“We’re still trying to get the appropriate sureties in place with a very difficult bail,” Burke said, alluding to the seriousness of the allegations against his client.

Ayanle Hassan Ali, 27 faces nine charges, including three counts of attempted murder, two counts of aggravated assault, three counts of assault with a weapon and one count of weapons dangerous.

Toronto Police Chief Mark Saunders has said that while at the scene of Monday's attack, a suspect stated that "'Allah told me to do this; Allah told me to come here and kill people."'

Burke said what was said and done during the alleged incident will come out in complete detail during court proceedings.

“They will say what they will say. At some point it will come out what was said and what wasn’t said.”

Two soldiers suffered minor wounds in the attack last Monday.

Burke said Ali “is holding up under the circumstances.”

“I’m sure being where he is certainly a very trying issue for him.”
