A major downtown intersection is closed for the next two weeks, a move that will create some pain for motorists and transit users.

The city shut down the intersection of Queen Street West and Spadina Avenue on Monday morning to allow TTC crews to begin replacing streetcar tracks, switches and overhead wires.

Streetcar platforms are being rebuilt and concrete is being replaced.

The intersection is scheduled to be closed to all traffic, including streetcars, until July 23.

TTC service affected

Buses are running along Spadina Avenue in place of the 510 Spadina streetcars.

Southbound buses are diverting around the intersection via Dundas Street, Bathurst Street and Adelaide Street, while northbound buses are taking Adelaide Street, Peter Street, Queen Street, Beverley Street and Dundas Street.

Buses are not stopping between Dundas and Adelaide streets, but TTC customers can board at temporary stops at Dundas and Spadina or Adelaide and Spadina.

Meanwhile, 501 Queen Humber/Long Branch streetcars are diverting both ways via Shaw, King and Church due to the construction project. There are no stops or replacement bus service between Church Street to Shaw Street on Queen Street.

The TTC said customers should walk south and board streetcars on King Street.

Customers can board the 501/301 Queen streetcar eastbound or westbound at King or St. Andrew subway stations.
