A male victim is dead after being shot at his home in Riverdale Sunday afternoon.

At around 4 p.m. police received a 911 call from a resident who heard five shots ring out in the area of Munro Street and Mary Ann Shadd Lane.

Paramedics arrived at a home on Munro Street to find a single male victim dead in the second floor bedroom of a home where police believe he lived. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

“We’re busy canvassing for video. We have some great video in the area. We’ve spoken to some witnesses,” Det. Murray Barnes told CP24 at the scene Sunday night.

Barnes wouldn’t say whether police believe anyone else was home at the time of the shooting.

He said there were no signs of forced entry into the home.

“Obviously video is going to play a huge role. It was daylight so that is an advantage to us,” Barnes said.

The fatal shooting happened steps away from the spot where 61-year-old grandmother Peggy Ann Smith was fatally struck by a stray bullet three months ago on Aug. 27.

Police told CP24 Sunday evening that it is still too early to say whether there might be any connection between the two killings.

“We’re certainly going to look into every piece of information that comes in,” Barnes said.

An autopsy is expected to be conducted tomorrow.

Barnes said some information about suspects has started to trickle in, but there was no clear description to provide to the public immediately.

“We’ve got a lot of work to do tonight and obviously over the next few days, so I am going to hold off on that at the moment,” Barnes said.

Investigators are appealing to any possible witnesses to come forward.

“If you were in the area and you saw anything or heard anything, please contact us,” Barnes said.

He said forensics officers are expected to remain at the scene for most of the night to gather evidence.
