York Regional Police are looking for suspects after one man was killed and a second was seriously wounded in a double stabbing in Newmarket late Wednesday night.

The violent incident occurred near Davis Drive and Huron Heights Drive at about 10:30 p.m., and police say three male suspects may have fled in a dark-coloured sport utility vehicle.

Witnesses told police some kind of altercation occurred before the men were stabbed.

Police said a 65-year-old Newmarket man died and a man in his 40s was in critical condition in hospital after undergoing surgery.

Investigators canvassed the neighbourhood for witnesses and surveillance video, and they are asking anyone with information to call the homicide unit at 1-866-876-5423 ext. 7865 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).

The double stabbing occurred on a violent night in the GTA.

In Toronto, a man was fatally stabbed outside a building near Kipling Avenue and Albion Road.
