SOUTH GEORGIAN BAY, Ont. -- Provincial police in South Georgian Bay say a man was taken to hospital with serious injuries caused by a boat propeller.

It happened Saturday evening on the island side of Big Chute, which is part of the Trent Severn Waterway.

Police say a boat was towing someone on a recreational flotation device when the man immobilized the boat and jumped into the water to take his turn on the device.

That is when the boat propeller caused the injuries to the 32-year-old man operating the boat.

He was airlifted to a Toronto hospital.
