A man who was shot while having dinner at an Entertainment District restaurant over the weekend appeared in court today to face multiple weapons charges.

Multiple shots were fired inside Michael's on Simcoe, a steakhouse located near Adelaide and Simcoe streets, shortly before 10 p.m. Sunday night.

Two people – a man and a woman – were sitting down to dinner when they were shot by two masked gunmen in what police previously described as a targeted attack.

The victims – both of whom are in their late 20s – were rushed to hospital.

Earlier this week police said the woman was shot in the hip. The male victim was shot in the neck.

Detailed information on potential suspects has not been released by police.

In a release issued Wednesday afternoon, police confirmed that the man injured in the shooting had been charged with a number of weapons-related offences.

Police allege he was armed at the time he was shot.

Terry Nguyen, 29, of Toronto, faces nine charges, including possession of a prohibited firearm with ammunition, possession of a firearm obtained by crime, and careless storage of a firearm.

Appearing in court Thursday, Nguyen, who wore the collar of his orange jumpsuit pulled up around his neck, spoke only to provide his name.

He is scheduled to appear in court next on Sept. 29 at 10 a.m. for a bail hearing. His lawyer has requested a Vietnamese interpreter be present at the hearing.

Anyone who may have witnessed the shooting is asked to call investigators at 416-808-5200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
