One man is in custody and another suspect is outstanding after a 43-year-old man was stabbed in the abdomen outside a west-end shopping mall Friday afternoon.

It happened in the parking lot of the Galleria Shopping Centre near Dufferin and Dupont streets at around 12:10 p.m.

According to Const. Tony Vella, the victim was involved in a fight with about five other men when the stabbing occurred.

The suspects are believed to have fled the scene in a green pickup truck.

“At this point we are in the preliminary part of our investigation,” Vella told CP24 earlier Firday afternoon. “We will be going through the security cameras and hopefully catching exactly what occurred and our officers will be speaking with a number of witnesses as well. The big question right now is what motivated the incident and why.”

The immediate area surrounding the mall was closed to traffic while police investigated.
