The metal detectors that were responsible for the long lineups many fans faced in getting into the Rogers Centre for Monday’s night’s Blue Jays home opener will soon be in use at the Air Canada Centre as well.

The downtown ballpark has 55 of the metal detectors in place this season as part of a new Major-League-wide policy and on Tuesday morning a Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment spokesperson confirmed to CP24 that the Air Canada Centre will be following suit as of next season.

The new security devices are similar to the ones found in airports, however they are calibrated to be less sensitive so spectators only have to remove large metal items from their person and don’t have to worry about loose change, belts and watches.
