A woman fatally struck in a hit-and-run in the Bloorcourt Village neighbourhood Sunday night was a mother of three, CTV News has learned.

Nelisa Damota, 39, was struck by a westbound vehicle on Bloor Street near Dovercourt Road as she attempted to cross the street after she asked her husband to make a stop at the bank at around 9 p.m. She was hit as she crossed the street.

She was thrown into the path of a second vehicle, travelling east, after being initially struck. The driver of the second vehicle remained at the scene - the person driving the first vehicle did not.

Paramedics found Damota without vital signs and rushed her to a trauma centre via emergency run where she was pronounced dead a short time later.

The circumstances that led up to the collision remain unclear.

“I can’t really explain what I’m feeling right now,” Damota’s husband, Helio Batista, said Monday. “There’s no words to describe the way I feel right now. I feel empty. It was brutal.

“He took somebody I love very much. She was a great, great, great person. She’s going to be missed a lot.”

Damota, a mother of one and stepmother of two children, worked as a business administrator for a real estate company.

“We have several witnesses that have already come forward and we are looking for more,” Const. Clint Stibbe told CP24 at the scene Sunday night.

Police are looking for a white Mercedes Benz S-Class, model year from 1986 to 1991, with fresh damage to the front left side.

“I would suggest that if that person is listening they should contact a lawyer and then contact police,” Stibbe said.
