One man is dead following a daylight shooting in an underground parking garage in King West Village this afternoon.

Police were initially called to a parking garage near King Street West and Crawford Street shortly before 12:30 p.m. for a collision involving a motorcyclist.

However Toronto Paramedic Services said the male victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds and was pronounced dead at the scene.

There is no information so far about possible suspects and the Toronto Police Service's homicide unit has taken over the investigation.

The age of the victim has not yet been released.

Bill Nemesi, a resident in the neighbourhood, said he heard the shots but assumed the noise was something else.

"We had heard what sounded like gunshots earlier but there is a lot of construction that goes on around here,"  he told CP24 at the scene.

"Obviously you wouldn’t expect something like that in downtown… this is a pretty popular (neighbourhood), close to Liberty Village, a lot of young professionals around."

Police say an update is expected to be provided on Monday.
