BARRIE, Ont. -- Barrie police have charged a 43-year-old Peel Regional Police officer after her handgun and duty belt were stolen from her personal car.

Investigators say it happened in front of the officer's home in Barrie, sometime between the evening of June 26 and the morning of June 27.

They say the belt taken from the car also contained 46 rounds of ammunition, pepper spray, a baton and handcuffs.

On Tuesday, police charged two 20-year-old Barrie men in connection with the alleged theft.

Police said Saturday that the unidentified 16-year veteran of the Peel force had been charged with careless use of a firearm and she will appear in court in Barrie next month.
