OAKVILLE, Ont. -- A 29-year-old man is facing charges after allegedly posing as a realtor and stealing thousands of dollars worth of jewelry from a home west of Toronto.

Halton regional police say the alleged victims held an open house at their Oakville, Ont., home that was intended only for prospective real estate agents.

Investigators allege the man learned of the event online and pretended to be a realtor in order to get inside.

Once there, they allege he took $30,000 worth of jewelry from an upstairs bedroom and fled after being questioned by the home owner.

The man, from Willow Beach, Ont., is now charged with one count each of being unlawfully in a dwelling and theft over $5,000.

Police say they believe there may be other victims and are urging anyone with information to come forward.
