Toronto’s latest homicide victim has been identified as a 23-year-old woman from Zimbabwe.

Nyumwai Caroline Mkurazhizha was found suffering from serious injuries after she was strangled at a North York home on Clancy Drive Feb. 2. She was rushed to hospital, but died of her injuries.

Police had been withholding Mkurazhizha’s identity until they could notify her family.

Investigators had said the person who called 911 to alert police of the situation was taken into custody at the home the day Mkurazhizha died.

The next day police said they charged 18-year-old suspect Mohamed Adam Bharwani with first degree murder. He appeared in court at old City Hall Feb. 3.
