A Mississauga bank was robbed at gunpoint Friday morning by a man wearing a construction outfit but police say they believe the suspect is the same person responsible for several other robberies in both Hamilton and York Region.

Authorities said late Friday morning they believe the so-called “Vaulter bandit” has struck again. They first identified the bandit in 2010 and offered a $10,000 reward. In 2014 that reward was raised to $50,000.

On Friday, a man came in to a TD bank on Dundas Street near Dixie Road at around 7:30 a.m. with a gun and a black bag. He was wearing a mask, a yellow hard hat, and a construction vest with yellow and orange stripes.

The suspected demanded money and fled the scene with an unknown quantity of cash.

Initial reports from the scene suggested the employees may have been locked inside the vault before police arrived.

Police are now on the hunt for the man, who they described as white, between the ages of 45 and 50 years old, with grey hair. He is about five-foot-ten and was wearing jeans with the construction vest.

The public is being told not to approach the man but call 911 instead.
