Police say they are looking for three cars in connection with the murder of a woman outside a downtown Toronto nightclub this summer.

Jelena Loncar, 32, was shot to death outside of a nightclub near Wellington Street and Spadina Avenue shortly after 3 a.m. on Aug. 26. A second person, who police believe was the intended target of the shooting, sustained multiple gunshot wounds during the incident but has since been released from hospital and is cooperating with police.

“There is nothing in Jelena’s lifestyle, background, friends that would indicate she was targeted," Det. Sgt. Debbie Harris told reporters at a news conference Wednesday afternoon.

Harris also said that shortly before the shooting downtown, there was an exchange of gun fire in a parking lot in the city’s west end near The Queensway and Royal York Road and investigators believe the same three vehicles were involved.

The first vehicle has been described as a white, 2011-2012 base model Chrysler 300 with no sunroof, standard rims and no front plate.

The second vehicle is described as a dark-coloured, four-door vehicle with no sunroof, standard rims and both front and rear plates.

The third vehicle is described as a dark-coloured, four-door vehicle with tinted windows.

Police have also released a description of a 'person of interest' wanted in connection with the shooting.

The potential suspect has been described as a black male, age 18-25, approximately five-foot-ten to six-feet tall, with a thin build and gold grills on his lower teeth and possibly also his upper teeth. Police say the man has short hair with cornrows.

Homicide investigators are also speaking to rental car agencies to see if employees have any information on the three vehicles.

During the news conference, Loncar's sister said a few words to members of the media.

“I just want to let you know my sister was literally the nicest person in the world," she said tearfully.

"From the moment she woke up, she had a smile from one side of her face to the other. She greeted everyone with a massive hug. She attended every birthday, every celebration and I didn’t just lose a sister, I lost a best friend.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at 416-808-7400 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
