Police are searching for a woman who is being described as a person of interest in an attempted child abduction in High Park over the weekend.

According to Const. Tyler Steel, a parent and their child were in the Jamie Bell Adventure Playground on Saturday afternoon when they became involved in some sort of altercation with the woman.

At some point during that altercation, Steel said there was an “attempt at a child abduction.”

Steel would not reveal the exact circumstances of the attempted kidnapping but said that the allegation is that the woman attempted to remove the child from the area without the permission of the parent.

The constable added that there were a lot of people in the playground at the time and that police are looking to speak with anyone who may have seen what happened.

The woman is described as white, about 30 years old, five-foot-seven, 120 lbs. with a slim build, brown shoulder-length hair and a prominent nose. She was last seen wearing dark designer jeans and a dark jacket.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police at (416) 808-1100 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).
