Police are warning the public after a young girl reported being physically assaulted by a man at a Toronto school Tuesday afternoon.

According to police, the girl was in a washroom at Portage Trail Community Junior School, near Weston Road and Sidney Belsey Crescent, at about 2 p.m. when a man entered and grabbed her.

She fell to the floor but was able to get back on her feet and run to a classroom, where she alerted a teacher, police told CP24 reporter Cam Woolley.

After the girl ran away, the man fled in an unknown direction and was not located during an immediate search of the school by the teacher, said police spokeswoman Const. Wendy Drummond.

Officers are still looking for the man, and they are reviewing surveillance video captured by cameras within the school in an attempt to identify him.

The male suspect is white, about 30 years old and tall with a skinny build, full beard and thick moustache.

He was wearing a black toque, black sweater, and black shoes with blue stitching, and he was carrying a black satchel.

The sex crimes unit is investigating the incident.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 416−808−7474 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416−222−TIPS (8477).
