A rainfall warning issued for Toronto and parts of the Greater Toronto Area has ended, as the region continues to feel the impact of heavy precipitation that began late Thursday afternoon.

The warning, which was upgraded from a special weather statement, had also included Vaughan, Richmond Hill, Markham Pickering, Oshawa and southern Durham Region.

Environment Canada had predicted rainfall amounts of up to 40 millimetres in some areas.

Local flooding reported across city

The wet weather is creating headaches for commuters, both on city streets and for public transit passengers.

Subway service has been suspended for the night between York Mills and Eglinton stations due to flooding at Lawrence Station, according to the Toronto Transit Commission.

Crews are currently working at track level with pumps to try and clear the water.

A number of above ground bus routes are also currently being affected by localized flooding.

Weather-related power outages

Thursday night’s weather has also left some city residents in the dark.

Several small pockets of power outages are being reported across the city, a representative with Toronto Hydro said.

They include the Warden Avenue and Kingston Road area, the Queen Street East and Victoria Park Avenue area, the Eglinton and Victoria Park avenues area, the Steeles and Islington avenues area, the Brimley Road and Steeles Avenue area, the York Mills and Don Mills roads area, the Gerrard and Main streets area, the Victoria Park Avenue and Gerrard Street area, the Warden and St. Clair avenues area, and the Victoria Park and Danforth avenues area.

Crews are currently working to restore power in the affected areas. There was no immediate word on a possible restoration time.
