Six people have been arrested in connection with a murder that took place in Etobicoke last fall, according to Toronto police.

Some of the suspects have also been charged with drug-related offences.

Edwin Villan was shot dead on Sept. 16, 2012. He was found lying on Midden Crescent, a street in the Martin Grove Road and The Westway area.

The 33-year-old father was shot in the head. From the onset of the case, police had a description of a suspect and a vehicle involved in the crime.

Investigators had said that Villan had a 1998 Nissan Pathfinder in his possession at the time he was murdered. They believed the suspect drove away from the scene in that vehicle.

Early last month police held a news conference to ask witnesses who had spotted the SUV to come forward.

The vehicle was described as having “distinctive” and “expensive” rims. It was spotted near Pearson International Airport the day after Villan’s body was found. When it was found in north Scarborough two days later, it had been set on fire.

Police are still looking to speak to anyone who spotted the vehicle.

“The vehicle itself is highly distinctive,” said Staff Sgt. Pauline Gray at a news conference held on March 4. “These rims are fairly expensive. They’re very identifiable and there’s no doubt in my mind that there’s more than one person out there who saw (the vehicle).”

Toronto police identified six suspects that have been arrested in connection with the case Thursday afternoon.

Five of the suspects are from Toronto and one resides north of the city in Maple.
