PEMBROKE, Ont. -- A man who is a suspect in the deaths of three women is expected to appear in a Pembroke, Ont., court today.

The 57-year-old was arrested Tuesday afternoon after a shooting in the eastern Ontario community of Wilno triggered a manhunt that stretched as far as Ottawa.

After the man was arrested in Kinburn, west of Ottawa, police revealed that he was being investigated in connection with the deaths of three women whose bodies were found in separate locations in and around Wilno.

Police say autopsies for the three victims are expected to take place in Ottawa today.

Residents in Wilno have expressed their shock at Tuesday's events, which resulted in many businesses and schools being placed under lockdown while police hunted for the suspect.

Police say they haven't released the suspect's name because charges are pending.
