Toronto police have charged a 23-year-old old man in connection with a fatal stabbing in the city’s east end early Tuesday morning.

Police say they were called to a basement apartment on Kingston Road, near Birchmount Road, shortly before 3:30 a.m. for a report of a stabbing.

Upon arrival, they discovered a 58-year-old man suffering from obvious trauma. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Several people who were in the basement at the time of the stabbing were questioned by police.

The name of the victim has not been released, pending notification of next of kin. A post-mortem examination has been scheduled for Wednesday.

A 23-year-old suspect was taken into custody in connection with the incident.

The suspect, identified by police as Kalib Dufty, of Toronto, is charged with second-degree murder in connection with the incident.

He is scheduled to appear in court Wednesday morning.
