Toronto police are investigating after they say a three-year-old girl found a needle inserted into a chocolate bar she received while trick-or-treating.

Police say the young child was about to eat her Halloween candy on Tuesday night when she found a needle inside a chocolate bar.

Investigators say they believe the little girl, who was not injured, obtained the tainted candy in the Keele Street and Lawrence Avenue West area.

Police ask parents to thoroughly check candy received from Halloween loot bags before allowing their children to eat the treats.

Investigators ask anyone with information to contact police at 416-808-1200 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-TIPS (8477).

This is the second time a child has reportedly found a sharp item inserted in Halloween candy in Toronto.

According to police, parents of a child who went trick-or-treating in the area of Eastwood Road and Woodbine Avenue found a thumbtack inside a chocolate bar on Monday.

In Niagara Region, there were two reported cases of razor blades being found inside Halloween candy.
