Mayor John Tory may not know Kanye West’s nationality but it turns out that he is familiar with his music and with his reality star wife.

One day after mistakenly telling reporters that the Chicago-born rapper is “a proud product of our music industry here” Tory posted a video to Twitter on Thursday afternoon poking fun at the error.

In the minute-long video, a ballcap-wearing Tory is shown putting on headphones outside St. George Station and nodding along to the sounds of West’s 2007 hit ‘Stronger’ as he enters the station and boards the subway.

The mayor is then seen flipping through a newspaper before stopping at a conspicuously hidden copy of Rolling Stone magazine featuring a photo of West’s wife Kim Kardashian. At that point, Tory appears to place his hand on the page while gawking at the cleavage-heavy photo. After a few seconds, Tory then flips to the next page and continues to read the newspaper.

The video then ends with Tory posing next to the Toronto sign outside city hall while the words “Mayor John Tory, working hard to make #Toronto better, faster, stronger” flash across the screen.

“Yeezus, can't believe I didn’t know @KimKardashian’s husband wasn't Canadian! #Topoli #KanyeWest,” Tory said in a message posted to Twitter that accompanied the video.

West, who has sold more than 21 million albums over the course of his career, was named as a performer for the closing ceremonies of the Pan American Games on Wednesday.

Following the announcement, Tory was asked for his reaction and appeared to be confused about who exactly West was. In an appearance on NewsTalk 1010 later in the day, Tory then said that “all I can focus on with Kanye West is who he is married to.” Tory then told the radio station that he knows Kardashian because she is “part of that very colourful, interesting family” and “seems to pose in pictures that show off her ample posterior on a regular basis.”
