It appears Mayor John Tory hasn’t given up on the idea of a possible bid for the 2024 Olympic Games.

The mayor's office confirmed that Tory had a private meeting on Tuesday at city hall with both Marcel Aubut, the president of the Canadian Olympic Committee, along with Bob Richardson, the chief operating officer of Toronto’s 2008 Olympic bid.

"The Mayor was getting briefed on the changes to the bid process recently announced by the IOC as well as background on previous bid processes. This is part of the consultation and due diligence the Mayor committed to undertake," a written statement issued by the mayor's office read.

"With respect to any decision, Toronto is in the midst of hosting the Parapan Am Games, part of the largest sporting event in Canadian history, he is focused on their success."

The statement added that further conversations about a potential bid would take place only after the Parapan Am Games are over.

Tory has previously said that a decision could not be made without “extensive” consultation with several stakeholders.

“What we are doing now is letting the dust settle from a very successful Pan American Games (and) making sure we are equally successful with the Parapan Games, then engaging in a careful analysis of all of the facts and figures to do with those games and whatever we know about what’s involved in a future Olympic bid, if there is to be one,” he said.

The deadline to express interest to the International Olympic Committee is Sept. 15.
