A woman charged in connection with a random stabbing at a downtown drug store that left a 28-year-old newlywed dead made an appearance in court at Old City Hall today.

Rohinie Bisesar, 40, is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Rosemarie ‘Kim’ Junor, who was stabbed multiple times at a Shoppers Drug Mart in the underground PATH system near Bay and Wellington streets on Dec. 11.

Police have said that they believe the fatal stabbing was “random” and “unprovoked” and investigators do not believe the victim and suspect knew one another.

Bisesar, who has no prior criminal record, is currently in custody and has not applied for bail.

Her lawyer Calvin Barry previously told reporters that the allegations are out of character for his client, who has an MBA and an “impressive resume.”

On Friday, Bisesar was dressed in a green sweater and had unkempt hair as she appeared in court.

Barry said labour disruption at area jails has made it hard for him to interact with his client, and the situation may get worse.

"I don't know how much pending doom we're going to have with this jail strike," referring to potential for a strike by Sunday morning at 12:01 a.m.

When asked if his client is aware of what is occurring in court, Barry said Bisesar is "fit" to continue the proceedings against her.

Bisesar’s next court appearance, which she is expected to make via video link, is scheduled for Jan. 20.
