Ontario's deficit has dropped to $16.7 billion, a government source has confirmed to CTV News.

The new projected deficit is $3 billion lower than what was forecasted in last year's budget.

The source attributed the drop to less spending at Queen's Park.

Finance Minister Dwight Duncan will table the next budget for the McGuinty government Tuesday afternoon.

It will be the last budget tabled before the provincial election this fall.
