The driver freed from a tractor-trailer that rolled over on the Queen Elizabeth Way in Burlington Tuesday afternoon is expected to make a full recovery, Ontario Provincial Police said.

The man became trapped when the truck rolled onto its side and spilled a load of auto parts down an embankment at around 2 p.m. The debris fell out of the truck and onto the westbound lanes of Highway 407.

Ontario Provincial Police said the driver was the only person inside the vehicle, and that damage to the truck made the extrication difficult.

Greg Sage, a spokesperson with Halton EMS, told CP24 that the extrication was a complex process. Deputy Fire Chief Jeff Weber said the weight and the size of the truck also made it a tough rescue operation.

An Ornge helicopter, the province's air ambulance service, was called to the scene to transport the driver to Hamilton General Hospital.

The driver is currently in stable condition, OPP said, despite being trapped in the cab of the truck for more than two hours.

The eastbound ramp of Highway 403 onto the Niagara-bound QEW and the Highway 403 ramp to Plains Road reopened shortly before 10 p.m.

The ramp from Highway 407 to Fairview Street remains closed.
