Toronto police are appealing for tips to identify the owner of a jacket that was found at the scene of a weekend slaying in Etobicoke.

Officers found the black leather jacket while they were investigating the unsolved shooting death of 24-year-old Abdikadir Khan, whose identity was revealed by police Wednesday.

Khan, a Toronto resident, was found in the fourth-floor stairwell of an apartment block at 320 Dixon Rd. last Sunday at about 1:35 p.m.

He was shot in the head, emergency officials said previously.

However, it's believed he was shot hours earlier, as residents reported hearing gunshots early Sunday morning, says Toronto police Det. Sgt. Pauline Gray.

Gray says police are reviewing surveillance video.

Investigators believe the jacket's owner may have been a witness to the crime.

Police are asking the jacket's owner or anyone with information about the case to call them at 416-808-7400 or 416-808-7412, or Toronto Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.

Police want to hear from people who may have heard or seen something suspicious at the apartment block Sunday between 2 a.m. and 3 a.m.

The jacket is designed by Al Wissam and bears a large design on the back that depicts a skeleton with a pirate's kerchief over its head and an eye patch.

The slogan "Dead men tell no tales" is found along the various seams of the coat, police say.
