A 26-year-old man is dead following a shooting near Jane Street and Finch Avenue late Thursday night, Toronto police said.

Emergency personnel were called to a townhouse complex in the 2900 block of Jane Street shortly after 10 p.m.

Officers found the victim, identified by police as Andrew Stewart, without vital signs outside the complex. They performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

Stewart was rushed to hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

He was shot after he left a party that was being held at one of the townhouse units.

About 30 to 40 people were at the party, said police Insp. Ed Boyd.

Investigators found three shell casings, possibly from a semi-automatic pistol, at the scene.

Police had two vehicles towed from the scene, including one that belonged to Stewart.

Stewart is known to police, Boyd said.

No one has been arrested.

Police are looking for a male suspect and a vehicle that was spotted fleeing the scene. Police said the male is brown, in his late 20s and about 5-foot-6 with a thin build and thin face, and short braided hair.

Anyone with information about the homicide is asked to call police at 416-808-7251 or Crime Stoppers anonymously at 416-222-8477.

Shots fired nearby

The homicide was one of two shootings that occurred in the area overnight, but police said there is no evidence linking the incidents.

At about 1 a.m., gunshots were fired at a Charrington Crescent housing complex, near Jane Street and Sheppard Avenue. One bullet pierced a window.

Police found several shell casings in a parking lot.

No injuries were reported.
