TORONTO - Russell Peters has gone from penning punchlines to writing a book.

Doubleday Canada has announced it has acquired the rights to a new book from the internationally beloved comedian from Brampton, Ont.

The still-untitled work will come out next fall.

Doubleday doesn't specify the genre of the book.

But in a release, it says it's "thrilled to have the opportunity to bring Russell's incredible humour and insights to readers everywhere."

The standup veteran is known to riff about ethnic stereotypes, including those of his own South Asian heritage.

This past summer, Forbes magazine named Peters as one of the 10 top earning comedians in the entertainment industry.
