The Special Investigations Unit is probing a dramatic scene in the Portlands after a fatal shooting involving Toronto police early Monday morning.

Police were chasing a vehicle when its driver tried to break through a roadblock. It is believed that officers opened fire, killing the suspect. One officer suffered minor injuries after being struck by the vehicle.

Emergency Medical Services say they were called to Cherry and Commissioners Streets at 1:30 a.m. They took one person to hospital, while another was pronounced dead at the scene. The deceased is 50-year-old Mississauga resident Wieslaw Duda.

A grey Nissan Sentra can be seen parked on the street with its windows shot out.

Police will only say there is an investigation, and the area is expected to be closed for several hours. Many cruisers are parked in the neighbourhood, blocking the roadway.
