TORONTO -- Derek Shelton was named quality control coach for the Blue Jays on Tuesday, rounding out Toronto's coaching staff for 2017

The 46-year-old Shelton spent seven seasons as the hitting coach for the Tampa Bay Rays (2010-16) and five in the same capacity with the Cleveland Indians (2005-09).

The Carbondale, Ill., native began his coaching career in the Yankees system in 1997, including three seasons as a manager, posting a 121-73 record with the GCL and Staten Island clubs.

Shelton serves as the spokesperson for the Speed Hitter training bat.
