A spokesperson for a striking union at York University says it's still waiting for school administrators to come back to the table to negotiate a deal.

CUPE negotiator Graham Potts says university administrators are "playing hardball," and that the union has tried to negotiate fairly.

The strike, which has cancelled classes for nearly 50,000 students, enters its fourth day Tuesday.

Potts also says students at the university have been in support of the striking union, which represents teaching assistants, contract faculty and researchers.

"They're all throwing their weight behind CUPE 3903," he told CP24.

However, several students have told CP24.COM, by posting comments on previous stories, that they're upset with the strike.

The educational careers of thousands of students were put on hold in 2000-2001 during a job action by the same union, lasting from Oct. 26 to Jan. 10 and postponing the school year.

Key issues include wages, job security and benefits.
