VAUGHAN, Ont. - It will be bus service as usual today in York Region.

Both sides reached a tentative agreement just before the midnight deadline.

About 28,000 commuters in the region north of Toronto were facing a strike on some routes.

The job action would have affected riders in Vaughan, along with some bus routes in Richmond Hill, Newmarket, Aurora, Markham and King Township.

Earlier, ATU Local 113 president Bob Kinnear said key issues are wages and sick days.

The details of the agreement will go out to members and there could be a vote on Tuesday.

"We're not pleased, I don't think any time you come out of bargaining with an employer that is more interested in profitability then the general public that you come out of it happy," Kinnear said after announcing the deal.

Kinnear said that despite the agreement, union members are frustrated with Veolia Transportation Services Canada and that would continue to be a problem whether or not the deal is ratified.
