A two-alarm fire forced a number of people to evacuate their North York homes early this morning.

The fire began shortly after 5 a.m. at a home under construction on Goodwill Ave. near Wilson Heights Blvd. and Wilson Ave.

According to 32 Division, a number of nearby homes were evacuated due to heavy smoke and flying embers.

A TTC bus was brought in to house displaced residents, who were allowed to return to their homes around 7 a.m.

The fire caused at least $500,000 in damage to a home, which was under construction, and "significant damage" to another home next to it, according to Toronto fire.

"By the time we had started working on it the home had collapsed, the interior had fallen in on itself and it was determined that it wasn't safe for anyone to go inside and we had to fight it strictly from the exterior," Dist Chief Graham Bell told CP24 at the scene.

Nobody was injured as a result.

The Fire Marshall is investigating.
