TORONTO - The UFC is coming to Toronto next week to make what it bills as a "major announcement in Canada."

Co-owner Lorenzo Fertitta and president Dana White will be at Tuesday's news conference at the Rogers Centre.

The announcement is not expected to be about the sanctioning of mixed martial arts in Ontario, however. The UFC would not be the outlet to announce that and Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty has not signalled any change to his position that his priorities do not include MMA at the moment.

White has long called Canada the "mecca" of mixed martial arts because of its numerous, passionate fans.

The UFC held its third show in Montreal earlier this month and is scheduled to debut in Vancouver on June 12 with UFC 115.

Its sister organization, World Extreme Cagefighting, makes its Canadian debut on June 20 in Edmonton.
