A 49-year-old Mississauga man was Tasered, pepper-sprayed and arrested Sunday after a dramatic confrontation with Peel Regional Police officers that was caught on video.

It started shortly before 11 a.m. on May 22 when police got a call about a man driving erratically and swerving in and out of traffic in the area of Erin Mills Parkway and Burnhamthorpe Road.

Witnesses at the scene told police that the man eventually stopped his car, got out of the vehicle and started shouting and behaving aggressively toward other drivers.

Officers arrived and determined that the 49-year-old man was emotionally disturbed.

In a series of videos posted to Twitter, the man is seen confronting two female officers in view of several stopped cars and a Mississauga transit bus. The officers repeatedly yell at him to get down on the ground. He initially complies, but then gets up and starts moving toward one of the officers, swearing at her.

The officers then pepper-spray and stun the man with a Taser. After being stunned, the man gets up once again and moves toward one of the officers aggressively.

Eventually, police managed to handcuff him. He was then transported to hospital to be assessed.

The man has since been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle, police said. He is currently being held for a bail hearing.

No injuries were reported in connection with the incident.
