An OCAD student missing since Monday morning has been located safe and sound, Toronto police confirmed in a news release Wednesday night.

Police said 20-year-old Asmaa Bana was located at around 5 p.m. at a coffee shop in the city's east end.

“She reached out to us,” Toronto police Staff Sgt. Brian Kay told CP24 Wednesday night. “I guess she had seen the news reports about her being reported missing by her family.”

Kay said Bana appeared to be in good health when she spoke with investigators.

“(She) explained the reasons why she had done what she had done,” he said. “She is an adult, and she’s apparently staying with a friend.”

Bana was previously last seen in the Dixon Road and Kipling Avenue area at around 7 a.m. Monday.

Earlier Wednesday, police issued a release indicating that they were concerned for her safety.

Speaking with CP24 Wednesday afternoon, Bana’s sister described her as innocent and soft spoken.

"This is out of character," she said of her sister’s disappearance at the time. "This is something she would never do."

Police said they now consider the case closed.
