A group of Toronto firefighters came to the rescue of a dog Sunday afternoon who was trapped on the Scarborough Bluffs for several hours.

The dog was spotted by a couple who were walking in the area on Saturday. The pair notified Toronto Animal Services and fire crews arrived on scene. Firefighters attempted to wrangle in the animal but when it got dark, they decided it was too dangerous to continue.

On Sunday morning, another crew arrived and one firefighter managed to rescue the dog after rappelling about eight metres down the Bluffs.

“I went down. He was friendly enough, I came over with treats but he never came close enough for me to grab him,” Toronto firefighter Ian Ollerenshaw said.

“So I borrowed one of those slip knot poles off of animal services and used that finally to get a hold of him.”

The dog, who was not wearing a collar, was brought to safety and is now in the care of Toronto Animal Services.
