Toronto Police say a 17-year-old male was stabbed in the area of Scarborough Town Centre Saturday night, but unlike Friday night’s incident which occurred a few hundred metres away, the victim is expected to survive.
Police and paramedics say they were called to the corner of Town Centre Court and Borough Drive at 8:01 p.m., for a report of male suffering from a stab wound.
Det. Jennifer Ryan said the boy was stabbed in the stomach inside the Scarborough Centre YMCA building.
Paramedics said the male was taken via ambulance to a hospital trauma centre in serious but non-life-threatening condition.
On Friday night, 15-year-old Kareem Derr was stabbed to death a few hundred metres away, at the Scarborough Centre bus terminal.
His friends and family members were holding a candlelit vigil in his memory when Saturday night’s stabbing occurred.
Ryan says police are unsure if Saturday's incident is connected to Derr's death.
