A 55-year-old Brampton man is dead and three others are in hospital after a two-vehicle collision where one car jumped a guardrail and plunged into a creek bed in Toronto’s Downsview neighbourhood Saturday afternoon.

Toronto firefighters said two vehicles collided sometime before 1:22 p.m., on Black Creek Drive near Jane Street. One of the vehicles containing four people jumped the guardrail and fell roof-first into the creek bed.

Ontario Provincial Police said the two vehicles were northbound on Black Creek Drive when they came into contact, at one point travelling side-by-side.

“We responded to the scene and determined that two vehicles had come into contact with each other and as a result of that contact, one vehicle – a Toyota Camry – then was vaulted over the guardrail and landed on its roof approximately three or four metres below the roadway,” OPP Cst. Graham Williamson told CP24.

Firefighters said the car’s roof was badly damaged by the 15-foot drop.

By 1:56 p.m., all four people had been extricated from the car. Toronto Paramedic Services said they took three people to area hospitals. The fourth occupant of the vehicle died in the collision, Toronto firefighters said.

Police said the deceased man was a passenger in the older model Camry. Police have not yet released his identity.

No one in the other car – a newer model Mercedes – was injured.

Williamson said it’s too early to say who may have been at fault and said police are examining all possible factors that could have contributed to the crash.

The northbound lanes of Black Creek Drive were closed at Lawrence Avenue as police investigated the deadly collision. They reopened around 6 p.m.
