A man shot multiple times in Leslieville Wednesday night has died, Toronto police have confirmed.

It happened in the Queen Street and Carlaw Avenue area a short time ago.

The victim sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries, paramedics said.

Police confirmed at around 10:45 p.m. that the victim had died of his injuries.

The circumstances surrounding the shooting were not immediately clear. Initial reports from witnesses in the area reported hearing as many as seven gunshots.

Suspect information was not immediately provided by police.

Carlaw Avenue is currently closed in both directions from Dundas Street to Colgate Avenue as police continue to investigate.
